Becoming Like Children

Yesterday I attended Doubling Gap Church of God. I’m blessed by the outpouring of my community and thankful that the churches around me have a Kingdom mindset and not a denomination mindset.

The ARKK (Acts of Random Kindness Kids) of the church set a goal to raise $150 during the month of February for Bibles. Yesterday, they presented the money to me (for my Bible ministry in Africa). You can watch it here. (That portion starts around 13:45). They SMASHED their goal of $150. FIVE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FIVE DOLLARS and EIGHTY-FIVE CENTS. That’s at least 37 physical Bibles!! How awesome is that?! A huge thanks to the kids and all the church members!

I was talking with a mom after church. She said her son was so excited for this “challenge”. The Sunday when this information was passed along to the kids he said, “Mom! I need $150!” She asked, “Why do you need $150?”. “I need the money so we can buy Bibles for people across the world.”

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:13-15

So often we forget to go back to the basics: Humility. Authenticity. Hope. Trust. Faith. LOVE. We are so overcome with pride, self-righteousness, ambition, and hatred. What if we were as excited as this little boy was to give money for Bibles (or any other type of ministry or need) to the things we see around us? What if we saw a homeless person on the street and immediately dug into our snack stash in the car and handed him something? What if when a friend was hurting and in need and we dropped everything to go visit them?

What if…??

The Greatest Commandment
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22: 34-40

I don’t know about you, but I hope I never lose sight of the wonder and excitement of serving others. It’s one of the greatest commandments we have as Christians. Let’s become like little children who don’t see differences-just people- and start LOVING others well!

UPDATE!!!!!!

Later in March I received some additional funds from more kids making the grand total collected…………………..$598.38!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!! AMAZINGGGG!!!

  1. I love to hear about when the ARKKids at our church get excited about helping others. That is what our whole ministry is built around, serving others in need. It is awesome when you see it in action. May God continue to bless you, Kelly, in the work you are doing for His Kingdom!
